Jonathon Riley (Brookline HS 97 and Stanford redshirt qualified for the USA Track & Field championships 1500 meters final. In the Thursday preliminary round, Riley ran 3:41.45, then matched that time in the Friday semifinals. Riley had the third fastest qualifying time. Then, in the finals on Saturday evening, Riley placed 5th with a time of 3:40.26. Also qualifying were Gabe Jennings (seventh in the final) and Michael Stember (fourth in the final), Riley's redshirt Stanford teammates and Erik Nedeau (eighth in the final) of the Boston area.
Jason Long, teammate of Michael Smith (Wachusett 98, James Madison U) qualified for the semis, but just missed moving on the the finals.
Matt Downin (New Hampshire HS and Wisconsin U) and Matt Lane (Massachusetts HS and William & Mary) placed eighth (13:49.07) and ninth (13:49.38) in the finals of the 5,000 meters. Adam Goucher upset Bob Kennedy for the title.
Jason Cullinane (Central Mass Striders!) placed 10th in heat 2 of the 3,000 meters steeplechase in 8:57.96. Jason needed 8:38.80 to move on to the next round.
Darin Shearer (Central Mass Striders!) placed 4th in heat 3 of the 3,000 meters steeplechase in 8:32.70 and qualified for the semifinals on time. Darin had the 11th fastest qualifying time. Darin then screamed home in fourth place in the finals with a time of 8:23.63. Pascal Dobert took first in 8:21.48.
Jennifer Toomey (Central Mass Striders!) placed 6th in heat 1 of the women's 800 meters in 2:06.74 and moved on to the semifinals. In the semis, Jennifer clocked 2:06.93 for 5th place in heat 2.
Kristin Beaney (Central Mass Striders!) competed in the women's 10K Saturday evening, finishing 14th in 33:53.39. Libbie Hickman took first in 31:41.33. Lynn Jennings placed 6th in 32:59.05
Maribel Sanchez (Central Mass Striders!) competes in the women's 5K Sunday afternoon.
Bethany Hart (Grafton HS 95 and U Conn 99) placed 15th in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 56.39 meters.
