17th Annual SNET Fairfield (CT) Road Races
On Sunday, June 7, the 17th Annual SNET Fairfield (CT) Road Races will take place. Formerly known as the Fairfield Half Marathon, there are now three (3) concurrent races:
- The SNET All Distance Half Marathon - named one of the "100 Great Races in the U.S." in the February, 1998 issue of Runners World Magazine.
- The SNET Americast 5K held just after the Half Marathon start. A great race for family members.
- The Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield Corporate Relay, a 13.1 mile relay race for three person teams.
Some of the top runners in the world have visited our race. Peter Githuka (1:03:00) and Elaine VanBlunk (1:12:06) hold our course records. This year over 2,500 runners are expected to participate in the three races. After the race, runners and their families are invited to relax on Fairfield's beautiful Jennings Beach to listen to live music and watch the awards ceremony.
We are located less than 1/2 hour from the CT/NY border, easily reached by car or train (Metro-North). Shuttle service from the railroad station is provided. The race is organized by Fairfield Firefighters and proceeds benefit the Connecticut Burns Care Foundation, Inc. Summer Camp for Kids -- a weeklong summer camp experience for severely burned children.
Entry forms and complete information are available from our WEB site (http://users.aol.com/ffldhalf/).
