| Camp Kaleva 5 Miler |
Lancaster, MA
December 14, 1997
This race, put on twice a year - summer and winter - by the North Medford Club, was orchestrated for years by Fred Brown, Sr. A little over twenty years ago, the summer edition was run on a hot August evening in 1977. As runners lined up at the starting line at Camp Kaleva, Fred held up his starter's pistol and said, "Oh, I thought you should know that Elvis Presley is dead." He immediately then fired the pistol. (This little tidbit was provided by Don Drewniak...hmmm)
