September 20th, 1997Very quietly, the Applefest 5K has emerged as one of the area's best bargains. For a modest $8 pre-entry fee, the return is a t-shirt, plenty of post-race refreshments, and a large number of prizes, awarded both by place of finish and by random draw.
David Marcinowski (Barre) was the top CMS finisher, placing third overall and winning the junior division. Jerry Learned (Hopkinton) and Glenn Sauder (Marlboro), both top ten finishers, won the master and senior divisions respectively. Deb Greenslit (Worcester) and Joanne Lachapelle (Worcester) placed 1-2 among female masters and were 2-3 overall in the women's competition. Zelda Schwartz (Worcester) and Marjorie Rosiello (Shrewsbury) were first respectively among female seniors and veterans.
