So, this rich English Lord owned all three islands off the coast of Cape
Cod. And he had three daughters, to whom he offered the islands. Elizabeth was the oldest, and had first choice. She wanted to be close, but not too close, so chose the island in between, and it was named Elizabeth Island. Martha was next in line and just adored Dad. She wanted to be closest, so chose the islands easily seen from Falmouth. It was thus named Martha's Vineyard. That left Nancy, the youngest. Nancy was annoyed. She wanted to be closest. She stomped and fumed (as only a young girl can...in fact...oops...better not go there). Anyway, Dad said, "Look Nan, either take it or leave it". So...Nan took it. ha...get it? Nan took it. Oh boy.
