LESLIE DEFENDS HIS MASTERY OF MARLBORO ROAD RACE

The skies cleared at Ghiloni Park in Marlboro and at race time 36 runners completed the sunny, beautiful, yet challenging Laborious Labor Day Ten Miler through the back streets of Marlboro and Hudson. Sponsored by Highland City Striders, Marlboro High Track Teams and the Marlboro Recreation Department, this unique race benefited the Marlborough Food Pantry, Unlike most of the local road races, this race had no entry fee; however, race director Mark Vital suggested that runners donate can goods for the pantry. Thanks to the generosity of those who competed; over 300 donated can goods will help fill the pantry's shelves that feed the community's most needy.

Course record holder Scott Leslie from Rutland, took the field out fast and never looked back. Scott won by almost eight minutes over Gary Cattarin from Marlboro, with a blistering time of 61.00 flat. Believe it or not, Scott's amazing time was slightly over a minute slower than his best set last year at The Tough Ten Mile Turkey Trot. Elaine Debitetto from Stow placed as the first female in a respectable time of 74.14.

Mark Vital, Race Director and Scott Leslie, Race Winner

The next race on the schedule for the Highland City Striders is the Marlboro Main Street Mile which will be at 9:45 AM on October 1st, just before the glorious Horatio Algers Fair in downtown Marlboro.
