Thanks to CMS'er Steven Veach for the heads up on this one.  Steve writes: " Just a quick note that 3 CMS'ers (maybe more) ran the Clarence DeMar marathon (25th Anniversary) on Sept. 29th.   Joe Alfano ran within 1 minute of his PR (somewhere around 3:40).  Pat Clark (hmmm...I can't find Pat in the CMS member list) ran it in spite of a nagging running injury so no shot at a PR for her but a very respectable 4:30 or somewhere around there, nonetheless.  It was my (Steven Veach) first marathon so I set out to run a comfortable 12 minute pace and ended up completing about 5:16.  The weather was excellent and the scenery was simply fantastic."  Tulips from the Keene NH web site

George Adams was the top CMS finisher, cracking the top 10 with a spiffy 2:47.  Young Jason Reed and master Dave Birse (who used to claim the title of Zucchini King, but seems to have gone on to greater titles, also flew under 3:00.  Joe Alfano took a break from directing the weekly 5K, contributing to the CMS web site, and teaching math to America's youth (something about discrete tomatos...) to run a nifty 3:42.

And these words penned by Dave Birse: "Yes, Warner is a pretty town and the course is a purdy but rugged one. It's ben around for 25 years and was only 10 bucks, incl shirt. De Mar was a blast. Breaking 3 hours was especially meaningful, as I'd run the very first DeMar in 1978 in sub 3. This was the 25 th edition of CDM and though it's been 21 years since I last did it the race still has a special flavor. have you ever done it? Many CMs'ers have. It's a classic. I had to nearly die to break 3. It meant 'd run under 3 hrs in 4 different decades, from a teen, then 20's, 30's and now the 40's.I have an interesting acct of doing this year's race, then something really dumb. Deciding to do the NH Marathon 6 days later. The Bristol course is the toughest I've ever run in 25 years of marathoning. Anyway, I'll send an acount. Yeah, couldn't make the Zucchini race this year, BUT does a Chili race count? Much more fun and better tasting than Zuke."
