Steve Wysk of Leominster has run 6 marathons.. .all while dealing with a neurological disorder called cervical dystonia which causes his neck to spasm constantly. Steve belongs to the NSTA (National Spasmodic Torticollis Association). His goal for the 5K Race Series is to hit or break 20 minutes. We bet he’ll do it! (Look for a feature article about Steve in a future issue of this
newsletter) * Paul McDermott, 68, of Fitchburg is an inspiration for all
too
Last year Paul underwent by-pass surgery in both legs. In March of this year he underwent an angioplasty and on April 21st he still managed to run the Boston Marathon and finish in 4:25!! Most recently, he has undergone 8 weeks of radiation therapy for prostate cancer. Paul tells us, “But my heart is still good!” Paul’s vibrant smile can attest to that as he routinely completes his 5K races in a very respectable 25-26 minutes!
Fitchburg State College senior Dan Navaroli recently broke 30:57 in a 4.8 mile training run on the FSC track.
Dan lives in Leominster, runs FSC cross country as well as 3,000, 5,000, and 10,000-meter events. Good luck for an awesome 2003-2004 senior year, Dan! |
Marilou Crohan, 70. of Leominster tells us that she recently ran 10 miles for the first time! Her goals are to train for and run a half-marathon and full marathon.
You're on your way, Marilou!
