Central Mass Runner Hit By Car

Evan Hallquist,
Murdock HS
December 5, 1999
from: Dyestat

(from Craig Dickson) Evan Hallquist, a student at Murdock High School in Winchendon, MA, was recently struck by a car while on a training run with teammates. He's doing decent but sustained some head injury and his leg was broken in two places. Seems the driver was busy adjusting the radio while driving and nearly took out two other runners.

Evan recently placed 17th in the div. 2 State High School Cross Country Champs and is looking to graduate in the spring. From what I hear he is an extremely bright student and he and teammates love running to an obsession. His father is the head cross country coach at Murdock as well. I'm sure he would appreciate your support. If you wish to send him a note: alchall@ibm.net

This from Alan Hallquist, Evan's father: Evan was hit by a car while running on Monday with Jon and Jake. He was hurt very badly. His right leg was broken in three places and they have permanently placed a pin from his knee to his ankle. His left leg suffered two large gashes, one about 10 inches long. He was in surgery for about four hours with a different team of doctors working on each leg. He also suffered hundreds of cuts and abrasions over his body, particularly his head and shoulders, some of which required stitches and the work of a plastic surgeon. Please put Evan in your prayers. He is at UMASS Medical in Worcester.
