May 98 Stridings

Long-time CMS member Dan Verrington (Bradford, MA) topped a field of 390 with a time of 19:44 in winning the April Fools Spring Classic 4 Miler held in Salisbury, MA on March 28th.

The 58th St. Patrick's Day 5K held in South Boston on March 15th was won by another long-time CMS member, Sean Livingston (Barrington, RI).   Sean's time was 15:52.  Ironically, the only reason that Sean ran the race was that he found out only a day earlier that Tweed's 5K, a race he has won several times, had gone out of existence.  Other CMS members known to have competed in the field of 449 were Jerry DeZutter (Worcester) sixth in 17:49, Chi Wing Chow (Worcester), eleventh in 19:28, Jim DeZutter (Harvard), 324th, second Veteran, in 28:42.  Yes, the DeZutter's are related (imagine that!)...Jim is the Daddy, Jerry the son.

Mimi Corcoran (Mendon) was the top female finisher with a time of 35:24 in the weather-battered Holyoke St. Patrick's Day 10K held in Holyoke on March 21st.  The newsletter staff suspects that a fair number of other CMS members also ran Holyoke.  Unfortunately, the results, other than the top ten overall and the first five females, seem to ba a state secret.  Full results will be listed in the next CMS Newsletter if they become available.

Erin Dromgoole (Millbury), Dartmouth Frosh took first place in the Heptagonals at Brown University in Providence, RI. on May 10 with a 3,000 Meters PR 9:40.6.  In Fall Cross Country,  Erin also was the third Dartmouth finisher at the Dartmouth Invitational and the Iona Invitational.  She sat out the middle of the season with a minor injury, but was able to return for the championship portion of the season.  She finished 5th at Heps (3rd/Dartmouth) to garner First Team All-Ivy honors.  She was also the 2nd Dartmouth finisher at the District I NCAA Qualifier and 10th overall.   At NCAAs, Erin finished 3rd for Dartmouth and 37th overall--narrowly missing All-American (26th team finisher) by one second.
