All Things Must Pass

All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
None of life's strings can last
So, I must be on my way
And face another day

It was said best, perhaps, by George Harrison in the title to his classic 1970 album - All Things Must Pass.
I edited my first issue of the CMS newsletter (#11) in 1978. That issue was four pages, typewritten and included six paragraphs of news, a race schedule and ten race results. With the exception of one issue (#36 - December 1982/January 1983, edited by Ric Buxton), I continued on as newsletter editor through the December 1991/January 1992 issue (#90). Beginning with issue #91, Steve Boudreau assumed the task of editor and continued in that capacity through issue #108 (February/March 1995).

I reassumed the duties of editor with the April/May 1995 issue and have continued on to the present. It is now time for someone new to step forward and take over as editor.

The job of editor need not be an all-encompassing one. I am willing to contribute race results and other information that I may have access to as a result of my 20-year affiliation with CMS, John Grenier will continue to do the race schedule and page two, Ric Buxton will stay on as the MultiSport contributor and Jan McNamara will compile and edit the 52-Week Series results. Hopefully, other members will
volunteer to join the newsletter staff.Help 3KB

Specifically, what is needed from the new editor is someone willing to gather the contributed and available material and put it together into a coherent entity. The position should require little in the way of writing (unless, of course, the editor so chooses).

Whoever takes on the position will have free reign to redesign the newsletter into whatever format he/she deems appropriate. Prerequisites: (1) familiarity with and access to email; (2) computer literacy; and (3) some experience with newsletter production.

Meanwhile, CMS Online, CMS' presence on the World Wide Web continues to develop under the direction of Barry Smith (who's he?).     Presently, most of the material found in the newsletter can be accessed through CMS Online: ..../frameset.html

The advantages of CMS Online over the newsletter are obvious: (1) it can be updated daily; (2) it has no space limitations; and (3) it costs a fraction  of the yearly cost that the newsletter does. The disadvantage: a distinct minority of club members are online. This will change in the next two or three years.

Of more things which must pass: the semi-famous CMS sticker/theater ticket race scoring system. Over the past few years, most of the club's larger races have been computerized. With the advent of the Web, it is necessary for CMS to start computerizing all but the smallest of CMS affiliated races. To that end, CMS has purchased the "Time Machine" and Alan Jones' "RunScore" software. Practice use of the system will begin with the 52-Week 5K Series races. Under the direction of Barry Smith, at either the February 7th or 14th 5K, CMS
will attempt to upload both the results and photos taken with a digital camera to CMS Online from the race registration area at Worcester State College.

In summary, if you can help, please let us know.
