Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Team in Training

May 27, 2003
Terry Elliot

I hope this letter finds you, your family and your acquaintances well. I am writing to share some very exciting news!. On  October 27, 2003, I will join a team from all over New England to run a Marathon in Dublin, Ireland. My purpose is two-fold; first, the challenge of training and completing my first 26.2 mile marathon and second, to raise awareness and assist in finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I will dedicate the next 5 months training with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training to support their efforts in finding a cure and improving the quality of life of the patients and their families. This amazing task is one that I cannot and will not do alone.

Running a marathon is a large goal I have set for myself. It is a challenge that requires great mental endurance, physical strength and serious dedication. It is something that I am not taking lightly because it will help so many children and families. Just this week my manager  was notified that her 23 month old nephew as been diagnosed with three types of cancer, I can only imagine the mental pain and anguish she is experiencing.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a national voluntary health agency committed to significantly accelerating the cure for leukemia and related cancers by funding research, patient financial aid and services, public and professional education, community services and advocacy. Since the foundation of the Society in 1949, more than 100 million dollars in research support has been allocated to aid in the study and advancement of knowledge of leukemia and related cancers. As of December 2001, the Massachusetts chapter of the Society’s Team In Training organization has committed over 2,100 runners, walkers, cyclists and triathletes who have raised over 2.7 million dollars. This support is felt directly by individuals who need and benefit from such generosity. Your donation will make a significant difference in the lives of so many battling leukemia, lymphoma, hodgkin’s disease, myeloma and other common cancers, including breast and lung cancer.

As a member of Team in Training, I have committed to raise $3,900 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. 75% of the money that I fundraise will go directly to research and patient programs. The money I raise will make a significant difference in many patients. Your help and generosity will keep me running until the end. Any amount will make a difference.  Please complete the attached donor form donor form and prediction sheet and send in your tax-deductible contribution  by June 30th, 2003. Pledges are accepted after this date too!

¨       If you have a loved one who is fighting or has lost the fight against cancer, in their honor, I would proud to wear their name on my shirt during my training and marathon run.

Thank you for your support! I will let you  know how I am doing with my training, or you can come and run with our team or cheer  us on, every Thursday night and Saturday morning until mid October, training runs start from Tufts University, Westboro Rd., Grafton, MA.

Very truly yours,
Terry Elliott
