barry| The Boston Marathon was held on Monday April 16th , with many CMS runners participating in the annual rite of spring . The bus from Orchard Hills Athletic Club and Greendale YMCA was filled to capacity with club members anxious to put the hard winters training to the test. The weather was good for spectating, but a little warm for the runners, (60's), as it can be in New England in spring.
Kevin Beck was first CMS across the line in
a sub 2:30 time. Many multiple Boston runners such as, Ken Lemerise, Jo Lachapelle, Jim Convery, Jim Garcia, Jerry DeZutter, Tim Richards, Wayne Smith, Peter Cotter
and some first time Boston runners, Andy Gallivan, Cheryl Taylor, Joe Alfano, John Walsh, ran in the heat.
The CMS hotel room at the Lenox was quite the happening place after the race with a few cases of beer and a layout of food provided by the club. A big thanks to longtime member Ralph Mooers for arranging the bus and hotel rooms, good job Ralph! Up and coming are the Worcester Firefighters Memorial 6-K, June 10th , Members Only 5-k race and cookout, June 13th , Paxton Summer Solstice 5-miler June 20th , and the tour De Cleghorn June 24th . We are working on a collection of race t-shirts and shoes that will be donated to The North Haiti Mission, an organization run out of Holden by Pastor Clint Goddard. So clean your closet of all the race shirts and the running shoes that didn't quite fit right and have been collecting dust (in good shape please), and bring them to me or (Joe Alfano, Wednesday nights) at a CMS race and I will get them to the pastor. |
