The search is on for the next CMS president It seems like a long time ago. Don Drewniak was lamenting about how he was in the process of moving and the need for someone to take over the day to day running of the club before he left was important so that the exchange of duty would be a smooth one. I now understand how important that is as I prepare to turn over the keys to the next person in charge. It would be nice to have a longer period of adjustment so he or she can learn some of the tasks associated with the running of things. I spent many nights making long distance calls to Texas trying to fumble through the first year. It would be nice to have someone pick up some of this experience before hand. If you have any interest in the position and would first like to talk over any questions you may have, call me and we can discuss them before you make a decision. There is a change in the annual CMS Christmas Eve run from Sterling Center to O’Connors Restaurant this year. After discussion with the board of NMC it was decided to make the run open to "all comers". Last year we made the run a CMS Members Only event. This seemed to take away from the feel and intent of the race and made many CMS\NMC+ members unhappy. The new CMS\NMC Christmas Eve Run will have CMS put onthe run and after party at O’Connors and NMC will put on a random draw raffle at the restaurant. This should be a coming together of the two best clubs in the area. It will still be free, so see you at O’Connors at 11:30 we pile into cars for the ride to the 12:00 noon start, (it is a point to point). For more information call Lisa Mentzer at 508-791-2565 or email Lisa Mentzer I just got the word from BAA, we will get the time waived entries to the Boston Marathon. The time waived entries will be drawn from a pool of requests, if we receive more requests than entries. To qualify for the drawing you must have
Send your name, address, phone, emailon a 3x5 index card with your membership expiration date, race you volunteered at, and marathon. We will choose the most qualified first, someone like Joe Alfano who volunteers two or three times a week willget first consideration over someone who volunteered at one race for ten minutes. This is a fair way to distribute the entries and should encourage you to get out and volunteer! And finally don’t forget the 21st Annual Freezer Five mile race on New Years Day. As always we offer the first area race of the new year, the Houghton School in Sterling 11:00am. We again this year will random draw a Sony DVD Player to a lucky runner, (Must be present to win!!!). We are working on a collection of race t-shirts and shoes that will be donated to The North Haiti Mission, an organization run out of Holden by Pastor Clint Goddard. So clean your closet of all the race shirts and the running shoes that didn't quite fit right and have been collecting dust (in good shape please), and bring them to me or (Joe Alfano, Wednesday nights) at a CMS race and I will get them to the pastor. |
