James Joyce wrote "Ecce Puer" (Translation from Latin: "it's a boy!") soon after his father's death and to occasion the birth of his Grandson.  It's enigmatic, and bittersweet as much of James Joyce's work.  Even Joyce commented that  "I've put in so many enigmas and puzzles that it will keep the professors busy for centuries arguing over what I meant, and that's the only way of insuring one's immortality." 

Joyce  also said that "the only decent people I even saw at a race course were the horses." And did the horses ever turn out this weekend!  The bright spring day, excellent organization, a USATF Championship brought almost 3000 runners and top running talent to Dedham, Massachusetts to The spacious Endicott Estate.  Is this race Enigmatic?  Perhaps.  Eclectic? Certainly.  James Joyce 10K is a race that is also a theatrical show with the actors (characters from Joyce's literary works) landmarking the course for their moving audience.  James Joyce 10K is an event, a show, a party, a gathering of runners and generations where, with managed moments of introspection, one could easily compare the melancholy happiness of "Ecce Puer" to the efforts and participants in the 10 Kilometers race.  For example, the last mile of the race is known as "Death."

James Joyce 10K was the 2^nd of seven 2001 USATF Grand Prix Races and is the New England Championship at the 10 kilometer distance.  Although the USATF team results are not yet tabulated, the seven CMS age division teams undoubtedly won or placed high in all  age group divisions. Team results will immediately follow as USATF release results.
