Polar Beverages/Central Mass Striders (CMS) Men’s Open Team
ran against 45 competing teams, to win a Silver Medal second place at
the 105th Boston Marathon. Kevin
Beck (Concord, NH), Fergus
Cullen (Laconia, NH) and Dan
Verrington (Bradford, MA), posted strong finishes in the 105th
running of the Boston Marathon. Leading
the CMS group early on, Dan Verrington was on a 2:21 pace at the halfway point but began to slow
after 25 Kilometers to finish 58th overall in 2:31:21.
Kevin Beck steadily ran 5:25 miles and finished 29th
overall (6th American) in 2:24:25 a personal record.
Fergus scored as the third man and finished in 2:39:17 in 120th
place.
CMS Masters Women rumbled and took home the 1st place Gold Medal. Led by a fast starting (and camera elusive) Marge Bellisle (3:00 and 9th Masters Woman overall) and followed by Maureen Burns (Chiptimed 3:17) and Joann Shields (Chiptimed 3:37) the CMS team outran the traditionally strong Atlanta Track Club for the win.
In the Men's Masters division, CMS struck Silver. The trio of Jim Garcia (2:37), Gennaro Conte (2:52), and Jerry Learned (2:54) took 2nd place out of 39 competing teams also outrunning the Atlanta Track Club.
The CMS Open Women took 6th place against 31 competing teams, finishing behind some strong New England regional teams. The team was headed by Barbara McManus (3:10), and followed by Cheryl Taylor (3:11) and Lisa Mentzer (3:34)
