Monday 09-04 Up at 6:30 out at 7. Knee very sore. Nice trail run, out-back with Dan and Paul 56:57. 50's fog and drizzle. 10am train to Munich then Salzburg. Finally got internet access! Food shopping, eat, and bed. Total: 8m

09-05 Up at 6 out at 6:30 mostly out and back along the river in Salzburg. Nice flat bike path. Very lousy knee first 2m, then not too bad. 1:10:18. Then castle tour and walk around town. Dinner in room, cards, bed at 9. Total: 10m

09-06 Up at 6 out at 6:30. Still pretty sore in the knee. Same run as yesterday 1:09:34. Rain drizzle 50's. Train to Munich. Cheap hotel! Out to Dachua for tour of concentration camp. Then back to Munich. Got some Ibuprofen, but couldn't understand the dosage as I threw out the box. Taking one "horse pill" every time I eat. Total 10m.

09-07 Up at 6 out at 7. 2m to the English Garten, then out and back in the Garten. Knee pretty sore. 57:23. Train to Bergen, met up with Richard Shelley on the train by chance. Out onto the course for 2m in Bergen then a little around town. 36:20, knee a bit better. Rainy 50's. Dinner in a big tent, then cards and the managers reception, bed at 10. Total: 13m

09-08 Up at 6:15 out at 7. Trail around town, mostly flat. Knee not too bad 57:13. Meetings until noon. Then up to the middle station on the course with Dan and Eric. Plus a little more 42:15. Felt pretty good. Sunny 70's, parade then dinner. Released some pent up frustration by ranting, felt much better after doing so! Total 14m.

09-09 Up at 6:30 out at 7. Run in the valley chilly, sunny 50? 55:07. Knee decent. Watched the start of the women's race. Then at noon out/back 5m around the valley on paths 35:14. Sunny 70. In PM hung out then got pizza on our own. Cards, then bed, slept lousy. Total 13m.

09-10 Up at 6am for coffee and Powerbar. Watched open race start. Then warm up at 10am. 3ish in 20:51, sun warm 70's. Then to the line. Last 5 minutes standing on the line. 5th row back! Out good in the 20's then moved up on some of the "level" parts. In 15th by middle station, got Molinari soon after. Steidl got me right at the line (damn!, just what he told me not to do). Ran down the course, probably the first ones down (via running) in 65:10. Party and trading uniforms until 10 then bed. Total 18m. No splits in the race. 132 finishers from 30 countries. Dan's time would have made him our fourth man! Total for the week 86m
