CMS Strides into the Year 2000 Amid Many Changes

The Central Mass Striders, just like all but a handful of computer systems around the globe, glided into Y2K without incident. Nonetheless, it is fitting that as we scramble to adjust our brains to the idea that “2000” is actually a year, a number of major changes are taking place within the club’s ranks.

The CMS multisport team, which was led by Ric Buxton until his untimely death in the spring of 1998, appeared headed for the athletic scrap heap about a year ago. Now the team is being reinstated. Details regarding joining are inside.

Late in 1999, the club was able to secure a new sponsorship deal with Reebok. One casualty of the deal was the splitting of CMS’ “road” and “track” racing teams – the latter is now Reebok-Boston. We wish Bob Sevene and his talented athletes well.

On the technology front, Barry Smith continues to expand the award-winning CMS Web site ( www.cmsrun.org ). We added a search engine, message board, and other cool timeburners.
