Mary Cobb, former Mass HS XC and Mile champ, graduate of Stanford, now with the Nike Farm Team, placed second in the 1,500 meters in a very spiffy 4:14.43. Harig Sidelel of Ethiopia, was first in 4:14.
Jeff Paterno, CMS, placed ninth in the second heat of the 1500 meters in 3:49.15. We all know the conversion: add about 17 seconds to get the one mile estimater...that leaves Jeff at about 4:06 equivalent.
Mark Irvine, CMS, placed 12th in his heat of the 1500 meters, coming home in 3:58.6.
Dan Hoarte, CMS, placed 1st in his heat of the 1500 meters, coming home with the best CMS time of the evening: 3:46.55.
The little USATF-NE write-up said: "Horace Ashenfelter won the NE AAU championship here in 1952 before his Olympic Gold" The Web Guy has only one autograph in his entire collection and it is none other than...Horace Ashenfelter, Villanova graduate and Olympic Steeplechase champion. What a small world. I got the autograph in 1961. Yes, I know, this is ancient history, so ask your grandfather about the AAU and 1961. Sigh...
