BU Invitational, the Grand Old Commonwealth Armory, Boston MA, 
Saturday, February 12, 2000

Dan Conti, Holy Cross and Quabbin HS, placed 12th  in the 55 meters high hurdles in 8.03.  Chris Stokes of George Mason won in 7.57.  

Brian Crossman, Central Mass Striders, placed 41st in the 200 meters in 23.69.  Eric Frempong-Manso of the Etobicoke Huskies (run your spell checker on that one, eh?) topped the field in 21.52.

Mark Irwine, Central Mass Striders,  placed eighth in the 1,000 meters in 2:31.45.  Mario Vernon-Watson was first in 2:19.96. 

Sean Murphy, St John's '96 and UMass Amherst,  placed 23rd in the Mile in 4:17.17.  Chris Livesey of Providence topped the field in 4:05.20 while Eastern Mass HS'er Bill Spierdowis of Duke placed 5th in 4:07.75.  Spierdowis is in a race with Andy Powell, also an Eastern Mass HS'er to be the next Mass runner under 4:00 for the mile. 

Scott Clark, Central Mass Striders, , placed 30th in the 3,000 meters in 8:44.66.  Jim Sorensen or Reebok Aggie was first in 8:08.17.  

Abby Rubino (Southwick Tolland and UMass Amherst), placed 17th in the 55 meter dash in 7.62.  Michelle Brown topped the field in 7.11.  Abby then came back in the long jump, placing 8th at 17' even.  Not sure if Southwick is in Central Mass, but I drive through it on my way to Jersey, so it automatically qualifies.  And, since I am the web guy, I make the rules.  So there. 

Jana Bromell, David Prouty HS and Wheaton College,  placed 27th in the 400 meters in 1:00.59.  Foy Williams of Etobicoke Gladstone (huh?) was first in 53.87.  Jana also placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 40' 2.25"

Laurie Feit-Melnick of Central Mass Striders, placed 6th in the 3,000 meters in 9:46.13.  Heather Cappello of Providence was 1st in 9:22.81 while Lara Niell (Bromfield School and Dartmouth) was 12th in 9:59.87.    

Bethany Hart (GRAFTON HS and U Conn)  topped the field in both the Weight Throw (59' 1.25") and the Shot (46' 1.25", almost 3 feet beyond 2nd).  

Johanna Lelke, (Southboro and U Mass Amherst) placed 15th in the high jump, going over 5' 1.75"  Tamika Toppin topped the field at 5' 7.75".  Johanna then decided to go higher by using a pole, placing 15th in the Pole Vault at 9' 7".  Imagine if Johanna could clear that height in the high jump, eh?

Dave Raymond, Wachusett HS and James Madison University, placed 33rd in the 800 meters in 1:59.7.  

Tyson Golden Spikes Invitational, University of Arkansas, February 14, 2000.

The Stanford distance medley relay team set an American collegiate indoor record Friday night at the Tyson Golden Spikes Track and Field Invitational held at the University of Arkansas. The team, comprised of Gabe Jennings, Evan Kelty, Michael Stember and Jonathon Riley (Brookline HS) , ran the relay in 9:30.19, breaking the year-old record set at 9:33.00 by UCLA at the NCAA Indoor Championships in 1999 by nearly three seconds

Provisional NCAA qualifiers in the men's events include 3,000 meters: Brent Hauser (7:59.10), 6th Jonathon Riley (8:01.07) and Jason Balkman (8:03.13);  and Thomas Murley in the 5000m with a time of 14:10.01. 

Also, Maurica Carlucci (Eastern Mass HS and Stanford)  800m-6th (2:10.82);
Melissa Feinstein (Eastern Mass HS and Stanford)  pole vault-4th (3.47m - 11-04 1/2)

Wheaton Invitational

Michael Wyman (David Prouty HS and Worcester State), ran 6.83 to qualify for the finals of the 55 meter dash.  Mike then ran 6.82 to place 5th, behind the 6.48 of Stanley Egbor.  Mike then came back to place 11th in the 200 in 24.25, behind Wayne Allen's 22.2 1st place time. Mike also placed 4th in the high jump, topping 1.88 meters.  That's somewhere around 6'.  Mike also placed 3rd in the long jump, going 6.45 meters. 

Bill Hodgeney (also of David Prouty HS and Worcester State), placed 11th in the 600 meters in 1:32.08, 10 seconds behind Jeff Willis 1st place time. 

Patrick Gemme (St John's and Worcester State), placed 4th in the 1,000 meters in 2:38.86, behind Amherst's Bruce Perlow in first with 2:31.88.

Andy Gallivan (Doherty HS 99 and Worcester State)  placed 16th in the 3000 meters in 9:52.05.  Chris Houghton of the Merchant Marine clobbered the field in 8:34.09.  Gee, Lara Neill ran 9:59 for the 3K.  Ouch.
