In the Men's competition over 10K:
New Englanders included:
- Matt Downin, Wisconsin senior, fourth in 30:25.9
- Matt Lane, William & Mary senior, 5th in 30:27.8
- Massachusetts Jonathan Riley (Brookline HS
97) and Stanford junior, 20th in 31:01.8
- Jason Vanderhoof (NH HS) and Wisconsin junior, 60th in 31:36.2
- Geoff Nickerson (Connecticut HS) and Dartmouth senior, 124th in 32:22.6
- Kevin Horgan, Oakmont HS '96 and
University of New Hampshire senior, 167th in 32:56.6
- Tim Curran, St John's HS 99 and
Providence frosh, 192nd in 33:18.7. Tim was fifth man for Providence.
Providence was 19th team.
- Massachusetts Corey Ricci-Munn (Gloucester HS 97) and Iona junior, 227th
in 34:03.5. Iona was ninth overall.
- Michael Smith, Wachusett HS 98 and
James Madison sophomore, was DQ'ed. Ouch! Madison was 27th team.
- Arkansas topped the field with a commanding 58 points, in front of
Wisconsin with 185, NC State with 201, and top-rated Stanford with 2223
points.
In the Women's
competition over 5K:
New England runners included:
- Erica Palmer, sophomore from Wisconsin, topped the field with a 16:39.5.
- Erin Sullivan, Stanford frosh, seventh in 16:56.2
- Sheela Agrawal, Massachusetts' Case HS
99, and Duke frosh, placed 28th in 17:21.5
- Tara Chaplan, Arizona sophomore, 33rd in 17:27.4
- Eastern Mass' Kim Thalmann, Brown sophomore, 56th in 17:40.9
- Brigham Young University topped the field with a commanding 72 points,
followed by Arkansas with 125 and the all-American Stanford with 127.
