Wes Shaw (St. John's HS and U Mass Amherst), placed third in the High Jump with a leap of 1.96 meters, or 6' 5" at the Atlantic 10 Championships held May 1-2, at Virginia Tech. Anthony Lordo of URI took first at 6' 7".

Wes came back on Sunday to tie for 7th in the pole vault with a leap of 14' 3.25" (4.35 meters). Brian Hunter of Virginia Tech won by over a foot with a leap of 16' 11".

Was that former St. John's distance runner Sean Murphy, now at U Mass, placing 6th in the Atlantic 10 1,500 meter run? Sean was clocked in 3:59.31 for the metric mile. Paul Hayes of Virginia Tech took first in 3:54.29.

Bethany Hart (Grafton High '95) placed fourth in the shot put at the Big East Championships held at Villanova University in Pennsylvania. Beth tossed the shot 13.97 meters, or 45' 10". Cheree Hicks of Syracuse was 1st with a toss over 54'.

On Sunday, Bethany came back to win the hammer throw with a heave of 60.0 meters even, or 196' 10". 2nd place was 13' behind!

Providence

John O'Mara (St. John's HS and Providence College) placed 15th in the 10,000 Meters in the Big East Championships. John ran 32:01.61. Teammate Keith Kelly took first in 30:05.47.
