UNH, April 5 Athletics weekly roundupThe University of New Hampshire men's track team opened the outdoor season with a victory at a meet held at Dartmouth College on April 3. New Hampshire middle distance runners had a strong showing on the afternoon. In the 800 meter run Kyle Schneck (Concord, N.H.) took first place (1:55.73) and Kevin Horgan (Oakmont HS and Ashburnham, MA) took third in 1:59.13. In the 1,500 meter run, Tim McCormick (Townsend, MA) took second in 4:02.6, while teammate Tim Wright (Londonderry, N.H.) placed right after him in third. Kelly Hughes (Wachusett HS) placed 9th in the 3,000 meters in 11:14.09 in the same meet. Teams from UNH, UVM, Maine, and UMass competed.

Dagny Dingman 19:38.87The Dartmouth women's track and field team defeated four other teams in action Saturday, April 3, at Dartmouth's Memorial Field. The Big Green amassed 57 points, just one ahead of the University of Massachusetts with 56. Vermont followed with 41, New Hampshire with 28 and Maine with 12. Earning first-place finishes for Dartmouth were freshman Lara Niell (Bromfield School) in the 1,500 meters in 4:37.24; junior Yana Shaw in the triple jump; sophomore Allison Cardlin in the shot put; sophomore Sarah Hayes in the discus; and junior Sarah Jones in the javelin.Lara is a teammate of Erin Dromgoole (Millbury HS). No recent news on Erin.
March 6-7, at the IC4A championships, in Boston, MA, JMU finished 5th of 80+ teams. Mike Smith, (JMU and Wachusett HS), placed 17th in the 3,000 in 8:26.82. Mike was 2nd for JMU behind teammate Russ Coleman who placed 3rd overall in 8:13.9
John O'Mara (St. Johns and Northboro MA) ran 8:53.35 in the 3,000 meters at the UConn Spring Invitational in Storrs Connecticut on April 10. John also ran 31:57.58 in the 10K at the Raleigh Relays, Raleigh NC, on March 26-27.
On March 30, Eastern Track Magazine named their 1999 All East Indoor Track and Field Team. UML has three athletes who were honored on this team. Erica Towlson (Winthrop, MA) was named in the 60M hurdles. Jill Croft (Gardner, MA) was honored in both the long jump and the triple jump. Tara Fay (Westborough, MA) was honored in the shot put.
Saturday, April 10, at the UConn Spring Track Invitational in Storrs CT, Kansas Ricci-Munn (Iona and Gloucester HS) took 2nd in the 3,000 M Steeplechase with at ime of 9:26.12. Kansas, brother Corey, and Scott Estabrook (North Middlesex) are all teammates at Iona. No recent news on Scott.
Saturday, April 10, at the UConn Spring Track Invitational in Storrs CT, Wes Shaw (U Mass and St. John's) took 2nd in the pole vault with a leap of 14' 6".
Craig Lefort of Columbia University (and Northbridge HS?) placed 1st in the 10K in 32:40.84 at the Columbia University Invitational in New York City on April 10.
On April 3, at the Connecticut Spring Invitational at Storrs CT, Bethany Hart (UConn and Grafton, MA) placed 2nd in the shot put with a toss of 40' 6.75". Bethany then took 1st in the hammer throw with a toss of 185' even. Competitors included URI, Albany, BC, UConn, CCSU, and Providence.
On April 3, at the Tufts Snowflake Classic in Roxbury MA, Noah Hill (Wheaton and Narragansett HS) placed 10th in the 5K in 16:12.26
