CMS 5K Series Race #42 |
After the strange happenings at the previous two CMS 52-Week 5K Series races, it was hoped that #42 would return to normalcy. No such luck.
On Saturday morning, October 17th, in addition to CMS 52-Week 5K #42, the club was committed to timing and scoring the Mental Health Awareness 5K in Westborough. As a result, one timing and scoring crew headed east to Westborough while another started out to Worcester State College, the site of the 52-Week 5K.
Unfortunately, the car transporting the WSC bound crew suffered a blown radiator hose enroute and, as a result, the crew never made it to WSC until the race was well over. Fortunately, one of those in attendance at WSC was Ken Deary, the impresario of the CMS-Dudley 5K Series. Upon realizing that the timing and scoring crew was not going to materialize, Ken announced to the assembled runners that the $2 entry fee was waived and instructed the two volunteers who did appear, Jerry Grove and Bob Seed, to write down names, ages, places and times at the finish line. And so it was done.
