Having set a world record by completing 225 races in 1997, Nick Anastasi of Atkinson, New Hampshire is out to insure that, if that record is to be broken, he will be the one to do it. With just under half of 1998 to go, Nick is on a pace to finish over 270 races for the year. When he crossed the finish line at CMS 5K Series Race #27, his total for the year reached 137 - one race every 1.4 days.
Finishing 4th was Jim Daley of New Ipswich, NH, age 62, who three days previous at the 84th Summer Festival Track & Field Meet held in Fitchburg, Massachusetts added his name to a small list of age 60+ runners who have broken 11:00 for 3000 meters. Note that 3,000 meters is 240 yards short of two miles. Jim ran a 10:52 at the Summer Festival which, at 84 years, is New England's oldest track and field meet. Last time we checked, the US outdoor track 3000 record in the age 60+ category was 10:13.8 set in 1991 by Don Gammia of Ohio.
