CMS 5K Series Race #14 Cross Country |
For the first time in the long history of the CMS 52-Week 5K Series, one of the races was run as cross country. The original plans called for a loop, including a monster hill, through the woods on the north side of Wachusett Reservoir in West Boylston. This plan had to be scrapped when it was discovered that more than a quarter mile of the proposed course was under water, the result of the reservoir being at a very high level.
The only alternative was a flat, double out-and-back course run for the most part on dirt fire trails. While there was some worry that a double out-and-back course might be ill-received, the opposite turned out to be the case. Those who competed particularly enjoyed being in constant contact with other runners throughout the race.
The same course will be used for the remaining three Saturdays in April. Registration is at Wachusett Cycle & MultiSport, Route 12, West Boylston from 8:10AM to 8:50AM.
