CMS 52-Week 5K Series Race #50

Worcester State College
Worcester, MA
December 15, 2007
Kevin Fallon

The runners were greeted today with some new/old directional markers that were last seen up at Devens this past summer. Two Flamingos migrated South to Worcester and were seen at the first turn onto Zenith while the second was pointing the way onto June Street Terrace.

Leading the pack though, Paul Noone had no problem following the course and running low 16's for the slick and snow narrowed roads. Charlie Salmond snuck under the 20 minute mark and was first for the Seniors, followed closely by Mark Johnson who was first for the Masters. Mark was finally able to run the course in the clockwise direction today as every time he showed up, we were either scheduled for the counter direction or the conditions forced us to run against traffic for safety reasons. Mark was so thrilled that he proceeded to run his fastest time in the past 2 years. Chalk one up for those who think the clockwise direction is faster!

Just a heads up: In two weeks, on December 29th, we will have our 52nd and final 5k race of 2007 at Worcester State. The Lobby will not be open though, as the students will be away for the holiday and the school is closed. We will need to run the race out of the back of our cars. As such, this will be a minimalistic approach, without a lot of the food/etc. Please plan accordingly. The 2008 Series will start the following Saturday and we will be back inside where it's warm!
