CMS 52-Week 5K Series Race #29

Rogers Field
Devens, MA

Another large crowd descended upon Devens for the weekly CMS 5K. 36 runners completed the course, with over half of them posting their best times of the season. Of course it didn't hurt to have 13 of those course PR's coming from newcomers! Welcome to all the first-timers! Brian Reeves was the fastest male first timer, and the fastest Reeves to boot! The Reeves (Brian, Chris, Kyle, and Mark) also mastered the family competition! Jayna McCarron took time off from the US Coast Guard to make her debut on the Devens course and along with her Dad Pete McCarron, they gave Team Reeves a run for the money! And here is where I seguin into the other family duo, Heather and Mike Seguin who show us that the couple that runs together stays together!

Three notable PR's came from the young trio at the front of the pack. The two Dan's and Bill quickly separated from the rest of the field with Danny Savukoski leading up the first climb on Sherman. Dan Navaroli, taking a break from his extended tempo runs on Wednesdays, decided this was a week to race and moved into the lead as they came through Mile 1 at the Fire Station in low 5's. From there, Dan N just slowly extended his lead and lowered his own course record from 16:40 down to 16:27. Not to be outdone, Danny Savukoski and Bill Arvanitis both turned in PR's for the course.
