CMS 52-Week 5K Series Race #21

Rogers Field
Devens, MA
May 25, 2005

Lots of wet, soaking rain up at Devens last night, accompanied by a steady downpour of damp soggy precipitation and passing showers.... Only 12 brave souls (soles?) ventured outdoors to compete in our weekly 5K run.

In the men's race it was a close contest between Dan Navaroli and Peter Wojtas. They were stride-for-stride coming through the first mile mark. By Mile #2 Navaroli had opened up a pretty good lead, but then he paused for a moment to pick up some car keys that he'd dropped (?). [Not sure of the exact details, but we really did see Dan turn around and run back several steps!] Anyway, Dan Navaroli won the race (19:28) and Peter Wojtas ran yet another very strong 2nd (19:37).

Noah's ark

Plenty of craziness in the women's race as well, as Jan Beckwith arrived at Devens just seconds before race time -- due to traffic on the way home from work -- and then during the race she managed to miss a turn and go off course for a minute or two. Nonetheless, Jan still won the race (23:48) with over 50 seconds to spare.
