Evelyn, Darlene and Joe. You may want to remember those names because they are three CMS sleeping giants who awoke for this week's race to run their best PR's in several years. Evelyn Dolan of Bolton ran 24:48, one second faster than three years ago when she ran her first CMS/OHAC Wednesday night race. Since then Evelyn has faced some obstacles including a serious injury that set her running back. Darlene Murray of Sterling also ran her fastest time in three years and in so doing also broke the twenty-two minute mark for the first time in three years too. Like Evelyn, she suffered a running injury which set her running back. This season Darlene has finally been able to put the injury behind her and find her running groove again. Joe DiMucci of Leominster ran his fastest time in five years. He easily broke the twenty minute mark by crossing the finish line in a time of 19:38. Also, a belated "Thank You" to Joe for donating a pumpkin to the raffle at last week's race. Congratulations to all three CMS'ers for great performances and we look forward to seeing their times to continue dropping and we wish them many years of injury-free running. As far as winners of the race this week, mighty Mike Thornton posted another sub-18 race coming in at the head of the pack in 17:40. The first master to come in was Bob Johnson in a time of 18:04, the first senior to finish was Charlie Salmond in a time of 19:07, and the first junior to come in was Anthony Koroskenyi in a time of 20:08. For the women, Karen Palmer of Fitchburg was first in a time of 21:06, Kris Gleason of Leominster was the first female master in a time of 21:26, and Pat Wojtas took the female senior division in a time of 30:16. Weekly Quote: "I love to run. This is just part of my life. It's the way I live. You put in so much effort and the results are so little, you might as well enjoy it and make lots of friends." Johnny Kelley Race director, Sarah Fullen, this week contributes photos for posting and adds "Thanks for the Memories!! With 2 more weeks remaining in the 5K Summer Series of 2003, we wanted to pause and highlight some of our regular runners and volunteers. Hope you enjoy the photos!" |
