Leadoff story this week is next week's race is at 6:00. Gizmo is a stickler for punctuality and I know I don't need to mention the wrath of a Gizmo scorned.

With the weather conditions becoming more accommodating for the task at hand, the runners had another good night at the races.

Bob Johnson of Leominster broke the tape at 18:35 for the men's gold medal. Charlie Salmond of Fitchburg took silver with a time of 19:17 (also first senior) and John Loiselle of Leominster captured bronze in a time of 19:45.

For the women, Jan Beckwith of Bolton captured gold with a time of 21:38, silver went to Darlene Murray of Sterling in a time of 21:47 (her fastest time in over 2 years), and bronze went to Leah Megan of Shirley in a time 22:56.

Other winners included:

• 1st junior - former Leominster High School track standout Anthony Koroskenyi, who crossed the finish line in a time of 20:09.
• 1st veteran - Stan Vancelette has faithfully attended Coach Perrone's Tuesday night track workouts at Fitchburg State College all summer long and in this race reaped the rewards by running 23:28, one of his fastest 5k's in quite some time.
• 1st female senior - Pat Wojtas of Chelmsford in a time of 30:06.
• 1st female veteran - Phyllis Brooks of Gardner in a time of 41:00.

Also, a belated congrats to Jim Shope, Jr. who did a PR in week 36's race with a time of 20:00 on the nose.
