With school back in session, the high school and college runners have ended their OHAC/CMS race series. Oddly enough though, the attendance was strong again this week. Word on the street is race director Sarah Fullen's beaming smile is bright enough to light up a room, so runners come from all over to soak up her warmness and friendliness. As you see with her digital handy work, Sarah's no slouch behind the camera either. Some first-timers to CMS/OHAC series attended last night; Sarah writes: |

Father & daughter Marty & Kacy Ellowitz. Marty is already an established CMS member while Kacy tried our 5K for the first time. She is a sophomore at Gardner High School. Last year in competitive swimming she was the State Champion in the 500-meter Freestyle. (Now if she could just nail down a long bike ride, she could be a serious triathlon contender!!) | |
| Diana Baldarelli of Sterling. |

Eric Brown of Harvard - (and joined CMS last night too!) |

| Father & daughter Jim DeZutter of Harvard and Leah Megan of Shirley. Like Marty Ellowitz, Jim is a CMS member and no stranger to our events. Leah joined him for the first time and officially joined CMS last night as well. |

The famous CMS random drawing is back and is still edge-of-your-seat exciting as it used to be. Kim Ortiz from Clinton made her CMS race series debut and not only had a good run but also took home a CMS glass from the random draw. Anthony Koroskenyi, without his Leominster HS posse whom he took under his wing this summer, made up for their absence by taking home the other CMS glass. Don't forget, runners, due to the miracle of the infinite universe you may be able to see Mars, but these CMS glasses are a much rarer find. Come on down and see if you can't win one before they disappear with Mars for another 50,000 years. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, we had some winners in the actual race this week too. Chris Benestad from Worcester stopped in to swipe first place in a time of 17:44. CMS'er Bob Johnson, who took second at Lake Placid and qualified for the Hawaiian Iron Man, was 1st master in a time of 18:16. Charlie Salmond took first senior in a time of 19:30. Anthony Koroskenyi, along with the highly coveted CMS glass took home 1st place in the junior division as well, in a time of 20:14. Stan Vancelette took the veterans division in a time of 23:50. On the women's side of things the unstoppable Karen Palmer again grabbed top honors in a time of 20:22. CMS'er Darlene Murray, running with sisters Kris Gleason and Cindy Beaudoin, won the women's masters category in a time of 22:36. Gardner High's Freestyle Swimming standout Kacy Ellowitz shed her fins to try her luck on land, and ended up taking the junior female award in a time of 24:08. On a final note, next week's race starts at 6:15. Until then, have a great week and stay healthy! |
