CMS 52-Week 5K #24 doubled as the annual CMS Summer Members Race. No entry fee was charged and all runners, volunteers and family members were treated to a post-race catered meal of salad, chicken, rice pilaf, beans, cornbread and Polar beverages. In addition to the meal, the runners and volunteers were eligible for a random draw of prizes ranging from ski lift tickets and warmup outfits to T-shirts leftover from Stu's 30K. Runners from as far away as New Jersey flocked to Orchard Hills to take advantage of this incredible deal.
Coinciding with Flag Day, the yearly elections
for CMS officers were held. (Not a moment too soon, after the long months of televised debates, soundbites, and celebrity endorsements.) Despite threatening skies the turnout at polling stations was good. And the final tally matched the predictions of most political insiders, as each office was won by the one candidate whose name was on the ballot.
